Town & Gown Symposia
"Town & Gown" is a term which conveys the relationship between Universities / Colleges and the Communities in which they are located. There is no doubt that, to a great extent, the relationships between these post-secondary institutions and cities are mutually beneficial. There is also general agreement that there are different jurisdictions and priorities, which often give rise to conflicts, tensions in the interface between universities / colleges and surrounding communities. Much can be accomplished when all parties work together to address Town & Gown issues and concerns. These parties include the universities / colleges, student organizations, citizens, community organizations, local municipalities and others.
There have been a number of symposia held in Ontario by TGAO members. These symposia focus on working in a collaborative way to address near-campus issues.
